They came to give a quote on replacing a hot water system, but after looking at it wouldn't give a quote until after I paid for a $250 diagnosis fee. When I told them I wouldn't agree to a fee until I knew the whole cost, Gavin spent a good long while trying to pressure me into it. I told him to leave it at least a half dozen times before he actually gave up. And decent plumber should have a fair idea how much a job like this is going to cost, so I believe that this strategy is a way to milk easy money out of customers before hitting them with an outrageous quote, where they are then forced to accept it or lose their $250.
